The Power of Self-Development

Sanna Nyholm

Senior Supervisor

As a young girl, Sanna Nyholm dreamed of becoming a welder and decided to follow in her father’s footsteps. After graduating, she began working at the Turku shipyard in 2008. Nearly 20 years later, she now leads a large hull assembly team as a senior supervisor.

Throughout her career, Sanna has been committed to continuous development. She has completed the qualification for method test welder and the International Welding Specialist (IWS) training, actively participating in the improvement of welding practices.

Her interest gradually expanded beyond welding to shipbuilding as a whole. A role as a welding coordinator in the quality department offered her new perspectives and experience.

Eventually, Sanna became interested in leadership. When the opportunity arose to become a team leader, she took it—and later advanced to her current role.
As a senior supervisor, Sanna leads a significant and hands-on part of the shipbuilding process. No two days are alike: the work is fast-paced, engaging, and varied. Despite the intensity, the atmosphere remains positive and the work rewarding.

Looking back, Sanna didn’t expect to stay at the shipyard this long. But a strong organizational culture and a warm, close-knit work community—one that feels almost like a second family—have made her stay.
