From an engineer to ship designer
Anu Nordling
Designer, Interior Design
Anu Nordling represents professional shipbuilders who have found employment at our shipyard through recruitment training. Anu started training as a ship designer at our Shipbuilding School in March 2017 and completed her training in autumn 2017. During the recruitment training, she completed the practical training part of the programme at our shipyard’s interior design department, which later hired her as an interior designer. Anu’s work has also been used in the induction training material of Meyer Turku – her final project “Consideration of fire compartmentation in interior design” is included in the design instructions for new designers.
Like many of our employees, Anu is a career changer. She is a product development engineer by training, and she has previously worked as a packaging and mechanics designer in the electronics industry. For the last 10 years of her 15 years in that industry, she was a materials specialist. She learned about Meyer Turku at a recruitment event organised by our shipyard, at which our personnel discussed the positive prospects of our shipyard and our recruitment training programmes.
At the moment, Anu’s job consists of drawing ships’ office diagrams and maintaining the office matrix. She also draws sign diagrams related to escape route planning.
According to Anu, the best part of the Shipbuilding School’s training is the opportunity to learn about our company while training and network with industry experts both at the shipyard and in the subcontracting network. She has enjoyed working together with other experts and contributing to large-scale projects with unique results. Anu has also been satisfied with the versatile career and training opportunities our shipyard offers. In fact, she has never experienced anything like this before in her career.
