Love at first sight

Ademir Ibrahimbegovic

Production Engineer, Component Manufacturing

Ademir Ibrahimbegovic is a mechanical and production engineer by training. He became interested in the Turku shipyard as an employer in his first year of university, when he visited the shipyard with a group of engineering students. The visit included a tour of a ship. The day was successful and inspiring, so Ademir decided to apply to our shipyard for a summer job.

Ademir initially worked as a plater’s assistant in production for two summers. In his third summer at the shipyard, he was promoted to supervisor trainee. Finally, he completed his thesis at the shipyard. After graduation, it took a couple of years for a suitable job opportunity to open for him. Ademir applied for the position of a production manager and was chosen. In this role, Ademir worked for five years before switching to his current position as a production engineer in component manufacturing.

Ademir praises the employer for flexible work practices: employees can influence their job description and they are encouraged to take responsibility and given space and support to develop as professionals. Employees have good opportunities to advance in their career. After spending six years at the shipyard, Ademir feels that his own career is only starting.

Ademir describes his current job as challenging and interesting. As a production engineer in component manufacturing, he is the manager of assembly supervisors. His job involves assembly monitoring and subcontracting.

The Turku shipyard has a large stock of orders for years to come, and the shipyard’s production capacity is constantly reinforced to match the future workload. In these investments, the production engineer serves as the project owner. Ademir is responsible for the renewal of the T bar line and the bulkhead and board manufacturing lines.

The work is varied and there are no two identical working days. The diverse job description of production engineer includes office work, production supervision, meetings, and cooperation with subcontractors. The work is made even more enjoyable by great colleagues. Ademir is happy to come to work every day.
