Shipbuilding School
Our Shipbuilding School trains world-class experts
The Meyer Turku Shipbuilding School has a long tradition of training professionals for the shipbuilding industry in Finland. The school has been providing shipbuilding training since 1962.
Our Shipbuilding School works in close cooperation with the supervisors of all company departments. The Shipbuilding School is responsible for the personnel’s know-how based on current and future needs at the shipyard. The teachers and lecturers at the Shipbuilding School provide training in addition to doing their normal work at the shipyard. Hands-on experience makes them the top experts in the industry. The school also collaborates with many different training organisations. Cooperation with other Finnish learning institutions, such as universities, institutes and vocational schools, is very important for the shipyard. Many of our training events are also open to companies that are part of our network.
Recruitment training based on demand
Recruitment training provided by the Shipbuilding School retrains you for a new career path and qualifies you to work as, for example, a plater-welder, pipe or engine fitter for ships, or as a ship designer. The six-month recruitment training programme consists of theoretical instruction, learning the basic work phases, and on-the-job learning. We organise multiple training courses a year, as necessary.
From skilled to qualified in six months
Those who complete the training successfully may be hired by Meyer Turku. From training applicants, we expect a good work attitude and a motivated approach to learning new skills. A good mental and physical condition, good manual skills, attention to detail and carefulness are key characteristics of a top-class shipbuilder.
We require basic training in the metal industry, and experience of tasks that demand great precision is a plus. Since the training is provided in Finnish, we expect the applicants to have good Finnish skills.
