Juhani Harju Mechanical Designer, mechanical design

Juhani Harju works at our shipyard as a mechanical designer in manufacturing design. He was hired for his current job through recruitment training. As a mechanical designer, Juhani’s job description involves independent design work, focusing on areas such as machine areas and 3D models. He says that the most rewarding part of the job is seeing his work in the completed ships.

Juhani graduated with a degree in energy technology and was attracted to the marine industry by its good employment situation. The close proximity of the shipyard and Meyer Turku’s positive image as an employer also encouraged him to apply for recruitment training. Juhani didn’t have any previous experience of shipyard work, but he says that wasn’t a problem when entering the industry. He gained the necessary information about shipbuilding processes during the training.

A mechanical designer’s work requires spatial understanding, the ability to solve problems and cooperation skills. It also takes time to learn about the various regulations and practices associated with the field. However, Juhani is grateful for the encouraging work community at his workplace. The atmosphere is always good and help is available when needed. Juhani believes that he has outstanding opportunities for career advancement as well.

Juhani recommends the recruitment training that made this job possible to other people who are considering the marine industry. The ship industry is doing well and there are plenty of orders. Juhani says that recruitment training is a suitable combination of theory and practical training. According to Juhani, one of the best parts of the training was the fact that the responsibility associated with the job description increased gradually as his professional skills developed.
